I heard from R’ Lapin some 30 years ago of a verse in Tehillim (don’t ask me which): “On the banks of the river I did not expect to hear.” It seems this is what Yosef said right after Paroh tried to get away with saying, “I dreamed that I was standing on the edger of the river.” Calling Paroh out on his dishonest recounting of his dream is one other thing that convinced Paroh that this was no ordinary man; who thus might be worthy of taking over daily operations of the Empire.
